PrEP

PrEP is a medicinally form of protection against HIV.

At the Checkpoint Bern, we offer PrEP counselling sessions as well as the necessary routine check ups.

PrEP stands for "Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis".

This is a medication. The method has been scientifically tested and, when used correctly, protects you just as well against an infection with HIV as condoms do.

PrEP only protects the user and only against HIV, but not against other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as gonorrhoea (Tripper), chlamydia, syphilis or hepatitis.

It is important that you only take PrEP under medical supervision due to avoid the development of resistance and side effects such as kidney or liver damage.

Furthermore it is mandatory that you get tested for STIs every three months.

SwissPrEPared

The aim of SwissPrEPared is to provide the best possible care for people with an increased risk of HIV and to prevent new HIV infections.

Whether already a PrEP user or not (yet): everyone is addressed.

To achieve this, SwissPrEPared consists of two complementary parts:

Firstly, it is a programme that aims to improve the quality of counselling provided by doctors and other healthcare professionals.

On the other hand, it is a study with the aim of scientifically answering important questions about PrEP and other relevant health topics.

SwissPrEPared is therefore supported by experts from the field, the community and the scientific community.
