Prevention
The checkpoint is present in the community with information, advice and tests.
Our "Friends of Dorothy" prevention team regularly visits the various commercial venues, parties, saunas and meeting places in queer Basel to carry out HIV and STI prevention. For epidemiological reasons, the main focus is on men who have sex with men (MSM) and trans people. The aim is to empower people to deal with risks in a self-determined and responsible manner by improving their individual level of information. This should help to reduce the number of new HIV and other STI infections and the associated harmful long-term consequences.
Prevention counselling takes place as part of outreach work in the scene and in digital spaces (in particular MSM-specific dating apps such as Grindr & Planetromeo). This allows information and prevention material to reach the target group directly in their respective environments. If necessary, the "Friends of Dorothy" can put you in touch with other specialist centres and partner organisations.
