A Checkpoint is a health centre for gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM). The Checkpoints Vaud and Zürich also counsel transgender people and their partners.

Alcohol, drugs and medication

About 80 percent of the Swiss population consume alcohol within measure.
1 in 5 people, though, consume alcohol excessively on a regular and casual basis.

A large amount of men who have sex with men and transgender people show signs of excessive consumption of alcohol, aswell as nicotine and drugs.

Psycho-active substances (alcohol, cannabis, medication, etc.) are sometimes associated with sex. In consuming such products; one’s ability to judge, prevention reflexes and decision-making abilities become impaired. Also feelings of desire and feelings of pain can decrease. Added to this, risk-taking increases.
