HIV positive! What now?

«Your HIV test is positive».

Unexpected, dreaded, oppressive and even devastating news. Words, which for the affected person mean the beginning of a new stage in life: → a life with HIV.

In this day and age; the diagnosis of being HIV positive is no longer the same news as it was at the beginning of the HIV epidemic. Nowadays it involves information about a chronic and treatable, if not curable, infection. The HIV virus is not visible or noticeable but still has considerable consequences for the infected person and poses a lot of questions.

«Whom will I tell? And how?»
«What sort of consequences will it have on my sexuality and my emotional life?»
«What will the consequences be for my partner?»
«How will my friends and family react?»
«Can I still carry on working?»
«What quality will my life have and what can I expect of it?»

Such questions and worries can weigh on the mind. Each person needs their own time to answer things for themselves. There is a wide range of support for this: One can download or order the brochures «HIV positive – what now?» free of charge.
